ADA Title II · WCAG 2.1 AA
April 26, 2027.
That is the date most public colleges and universities must have accessible websites, course content, and apps under the ADA Title II web rule. Here is what it requires, videos that show why it matters, and the official sources.
The deadline
Extended once. The standard did not change.
The Justice Department moved the original April 24, 2026 date back a year. What colleges must meet is the same: WCAG 2.1 Level AA for web content and mobile apps they provide, including content from vendors and AI chat tools on their sites.
April 26, 2027
State and local governments serving 50,000 or more people, including most public colleges and universities.
April 26, 2028
Public entities serving fewer than 50,000 people and special district governments, which can include some community college districts.
Title II covers public institutions. This page is general information, not legal advice; confirm which date applies to you with your counsel.
